Anselmo Mendes is one of the most important contemporary Portuguese winemakers, having spent more than 30 years exploring the potential of local grape varieties and different terroirs. His work is particularly focused on the Monção e Melgaço region, where he aims to show that Vinho Verde can be not only light, young white wines, but also serious, textured, and long-aging wines. Mendes pays great attention to old Portuguese grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods, while also using modern technologies and a more sustainable approach to viticulture. Pardusco Private is a particularly interesting example of this approach – it is an interpretation of Alvarelhão, one of the region's oldest red grape varieties. The term "pardusco" itself is associated with the old tradition of Vinho Verde red wines – lighter-colored, refreshing, yet surprisingly age-worthy red wines.
