The aroma opens with red cherries, raspberries, and wild berries, complemented by balsamic herbs, white pepper, dried tobacco leaves, liquorice root, and citrus zest. The aroma is initially restrained but gradually reveals its depth and elegance in the glass. The taste is dry, exceptionally elegant, and precise. Red cherries, cranberries, dried herbs, and subtle spice notes are discernible. Fine tannins, fresh acidity, and excellent balance give the wine a feeling of lightness despite the warm vintage. The finish is long, saline, and mineral, with notes of thyme, rosemary, and balsamic.

About the manufacturer
Biondi-Santi is one of Italy's most important wineries and the true birthplace of Brunello di Montalcino. In the 19th century, Clemente Santi, and later his grandson Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, were the first to isolate and vinify Sangiovese Grosso, creating the first Brunello in history. The first historic vintage was produced in 1888, and since then, Tenuta Greppo has become one of the greatest symbols of Italian winemaking.
Today, Tenuta Greppo manages approximately 32 hectares of vineyards, cultivating the historic BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso clone. The winery remains true to tradition – fermentation takes place in concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in large Slavonian oak barrels. This approach allows for the creation of extremely elegant, long-lived Brunellos, renowned not for their power but for their refinement and ability to evolve for decades. The 2017 Annata perfectly reflects this philosophy – even under hot vintage conditions, the classic Biondi-Santi style is maintained: fresh, aristocratic, and exceptionally harmonious.
