This South African red blend opens with rich dark berry aromas – blackcurrants, plums, and blackberries combine with notes of black olives, finely ground pepper, coriander seeds, and subtle violet flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with vibrant acidity and smooth, gentle tannins that add elegance without overpowering the fruitiness. The flavor offers a rich profile of black and red berries – black plums, redcurrants, and hints of red cherries – along with nuances of plum syrup, red licorice, and exotic spices, while the finish leaves a light aroma of dark spices and tobacco.

About the manufacturer

Boekenhoutskloof is one of the most important and recognizable South African wineries, founded in 1776 in a remote part of the Franschhoek Valley. After a long historical period during which the farm was used for various agricultural purposes, the real breakthrough occurred in 1993, when it was revived and reimagined by a group of investors led by Marc Kent. It was he who became the key figure, transforming Boekenhoutskloof from a historical farm into a modern, internationally recognized producer of "cult" South African wines. Marc Kent's philosophy is based on the idea that wine should be an expression of the place, climate, and history of the vineyards, yet at the same time bold, modern, and emotional. He was one of the first in South Africa to purposefully work with various regions (Swartland, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek), aiming to create complex, layered blends where different grape varieties and terroirs complement each other. His most iconic creation, "The Chocolate Block," became a symbol of this philosophy: it is a wine that combines concentration, spice, dark fruit, and textural elegance. Today, Boekenhoutskloof is considered one of the most influential New World wineries, renowned not only for its high quality but also for its ability to constantly evolve while maintaining a clear identity and a strong connection to the South African wine revolution.
