The 2022 harvest in the Tejo region was characterized by warm and dry weather, which resulted in a smaller but more concentrated harvest. These conditions gave the wine an intense flavor and structure.
This wine has a bright aroma of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, complemented by subtle hints of spice. On the palate, the wine is light, with soft tannins and refreshing acidity, providing balance and longevity.
About the manufacturer
Casal da Coelheira is a family-run farm founded in 1986 in the village of Tramagal, in a bend of the Tagus River, north of Lisbon. The name, meaning “place where hares are born”, comes from the abundance of wild animals that still thrive in this part of the landscape. The farm consists of around 64 hectares of vineyards spread over sandy chernet soils, shaped by temperate climate conditions of hot, long summers and cold, wet winters. This environment requires hardy vines with less foliage, but allows for the production of intensely fruitful berries with excellent concentration.
Terroir, varieties and wine style. Casal da Coelheira cultivates both traditional Portuguese varieties—Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Fernão Pires, Arinto—but also selected international variants, such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon or Alicante Bouschet, adapted to the local soil and climate.
