The 2023 vintage in the Loire Valley was characterized by a warm yet balanced climate, allowing the grapes to ripen well while maintaining refreshing acidity. The aroma reveals notes of citrus – lemon and lime – green apple, pear, and subtle tones of white flowers and marine minerality. On the palate, the wine is dry, fresh, and light, with a vibrant, crisp acidity and a subtle creamy texture due to aging on lees. A light saltiness and minerality, characteristic of the region, are perceptible. The finish is clean, refreshing, and elegant, with lingering citrus nuances.

About the manufacturer

Château de la Ragotière is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine, renowned for its traditions and focus on the Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet) grape variety. The estate has been in the family for several generations, and their goal is to maintain the authentic style of the region: fresh, mineral, and elegant. The winery is famous for its old vine (Vieilles Vignes) plots, which give the wines greater concentration and depth. Great attention is paid to vineyard work – the harvest is carefully conducted to maintain a balance between fruitiness and acidity. The winery adopts a minimalist approach, allowing the wine to develop naturally, and sur lie aging is an essential part of their style. This gives the wines a subtle creaminess and complexity, while retaining Muscadet's characteristic freshness and maritime character.
Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine is considered the best and most prestigious Muscadet subregion because its soils (granite, gneiss) and Atlantic climate create an ideal environment for the Melon de Bourgogne grape – the wines become exceptionally mineral, fresh, and structured. The "sur lie" designation means that the wine is aged on its lees after fermentation until bottling (at least until March following the harvest). During this process, the wine is not decanted, and the lees are periodically stirred (bâtonnage) – this gives the wine more texture, a subtle creaminess, and light bakery notes without losing freshness. It is precisely because of this technique that Muscadet gains more depth and becomes not only light but also structured and gastronomic.
