Mulinvecchio is one of Contucci's wine estates, distinguished by elegance and structure. The 2018 harvest in the Montepulciano region was particularly favorable - a warm and sunny spring, combined with a dry summer, allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, accumulating a rich concentration of aromas and flavors. The harvest was carried out by hand, in order to select only the best grapes.
This wine is aged for 12-18 months in oak barrels, which gives it subtle notes of vanilla, spices and light smoke. Due to the long aging, the wine becomes complex, rich, but retains good acidity and freshness. Mulinvecchio is characterized by rich flavors of red berries, cherries, plums, delicate spices and soft tannins, which give a long and pleasant aftertaste.
This wine perfectly reflects the Montepulciano terroir - its structure and aromatic intensity allow it to age for several more years, but it is still suitable for consumption now.

About the manufacturer

Contucci is one of the oldest and most consistently operating winemaking families in the heart of Montepulciano. Having started growing grapes as early as the 11th century and having actively contributed to the formation of the reputation of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in the 18th century, this family is still one of the most important guardians of the region's traditions. The wines are aged in authentic 13th century cellars, whose aura is filled with history, and next to them stands the magnificent Baroque Palazzo Contucci - designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder and frescoed by Andrea Pozzo in 1701-1703. It is not only a wine house, but also a living testimony to culture and heritage, where the history, art and oenological craftsmanship of Montepulciano intertwine.
The family-owned farm covers around 170 hectares, where the main varieties grown are local varieties: Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese), Canaiolo Nero and Colorino. All wines are fermented in large stainless steel and concrete tanks and then aged in massive French and Slavonian oak botti barrels, which have been in use for around 15 years. The limited use of new oak allows the elegance and tradition of the terroir to shine through. The wines are often released to the market later than the regulations allow, as the family prioritizes quality and authenticity over market dictates. This philosophy has earned the Contucci name respect among critics, who appreciate their wines for their classic style, subtle elegance and harmonious maturity.
