After fermentation in steel and concrete tanks, the wine is aged for 36 months in oak barrels (French and Slavonian). The wine is kept in steel tanks for another 4-6 months and aged in the bottle for 12 months. This wine is made from hand-picked grapes grown in the Pietra Rossa and Mulinvecchio vineyards, located at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level, with a south-east exposure. The soil is a mixture of clay and sand, originating from the Pliocene period. The wine is characterized by longevity, reaching maturity 20-30 years after harvest, and the optimal consumption period is between 4 and 16 years.

About the manufacturer
Contucci is one of the oldest and most consistently operating winemaking families in the heart of Montepulciano. Having started growing grapes as early as the 11th century and having actively contributed to the formation of the reputation of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in the 18th century, this family is still one of the most important guardians of the region's traditions. The wines are aged in authentic 13th century cellars, whose aura is filled with history, and next to them stands the magnificent Baroque Palazzo Contucci - designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder and frescoed by Andrea Pozzo in 1701-1703. It is not only a wine house, but also a living testimony to culture and heritage, where the history, art and oenological craftsmanship of Montepulciano intertwine.

The family-owned farm covers around 170 hectares, where the main varieties grown are local varieties: Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese), Canaiolo Nero and Colorino. All wines are fermented in large stainless steel and concrete tanks and then aged in massive French and Slavonian oak botti barrels, which have been in use for around 15 years. The limited use of new oak allows the elegance and tradition of the terroir to shine through. The wines are often released to the market later than the regulations allow, as the family prioritizes quality and authenticity over market dictates. This philosophy has earned the Contucci name respect among critics, who appreciate their wines for their classic style, subtle elegance and harmonious maturity.
