The wine comes from the village of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, located in the southern Côte de Beaune, just across the border from the Côte Chalonnaise. Although the area is traditionally known for Pinot Noir, the Chevrot family plants Gamay here, which is allowed under the rules of the Coteaux Bourguignons AOC - a flexible appellation established in 2011 that allows Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes from different regions of Burgundy to be blended or used separately.
"Pivoine" (lit. peony) - a wine that conveys the charm of Gamay: ruby color, aromas of raspberries, lingonberries and soft floral notes, and lightness, juiciness and structured freshness in the taste. The harvest in 2023 was quite favorable, warm, but sufficiently balanced, allowing for ripe, yet structurally elegant fruit.

About the manufacturer

Continuing the family winemaking tradition and a philosophy of sustainability, Domaine Chevrot et Fils is a family farm operating in the Maranges region since the 1830s, which was taken over by brothers Pablo and Vincent Chevrot in 2000. Today, they cultivate around 20 hectares of vineyards in 15 different AOCs (including Maranges and Santenay), following the principles of organic farming: using horses for ploughing, sowing cover crops and limiting the amount of fungicides - all to maintain healthy soil and a vibrant ecology.
Horses Valentino and Hotesse - a solid support team in the vineyard. One of the distinctive elements of Domaine Chevrot is the friendly approach to soil management, instead of heavy machinery, part of the work is done by two hardy workhorses named Valentine and Hotesse. Thanks to their help, the vineyards are worked gently, without compacting the soil, and maintaining ecological techniques is symbolic of their commitment: wine is born from healthy, naturally living land. Authentic expression of terroir and minimal intervention - The Chevrot brothers perfectly balance tradition and innovation - their wines not only accurately reflect the terroir, but are also often produced with minimal intervention: fermentation with local yeasts, low sulfur content, and the influence of oak is balanced (around 5-30% new oak depending on the type of cuvée). They also participate in the programs of the Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB) - they study and combat Brettanomyces infections, thus contributing to the dissemination of all Burgundy quality.
