The aroma reveals black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, and liquorice, complemented by notes of Provence herbs (garrigue), black pepper, dried spices, leather, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, the wine is rich, concentrated, and powerful, yet perfectly balanced – silky tannins, ripe black fruit flavour, fresh acidity, and a long, piquant finish with mineral and spice notes. The 2020 vintage boasts excellent harmony and has a 10–15 year ageing potential.

Gigondas is located at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains, where stony limestone, red clay, and gravel soils allow for the cultivation of concentrated yet elegant grapes. Due to a slightly cooler microclimate than Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas wines are characterised by brighter acidity, firmer tannins, and excellent longevity.

About the manufacturer

The history of E. Guigal began in 1946 when Étienne Guigal founded the winery in the village of Ampuis in the Rhône Valley. Later, his son Marcel Guigal joined him, transforming the family estate into one of the most famous winemaking names in the world. Today, the third generation – Philippe Guigal – continues the family traditions. Although Guigal is best known for its legendary Côte-Rôtie "La La" wines, their philosophy remains the same across all appellations – from Côtes du Rhône to Gigondas: meticulous work in the vineyard, long aging, and respect for the terroir. Due to consistently high quality, E. Guigal is considered one of the most influential wineries in the Rhône Valley worldwide.
