On the nose, the wine unfolds with a deep, oxidative elegance – dried apricots, caramelized nuts, figs, and raisins intertwine with orange peel, iris, coffee, and a subtle background of smoke and spices. On the palate, it is silky, round, and incredibly layered: the sweetness remains harmonious, never overwhelming, while the acidity provides vibrancy and prevents the wine from becoming heavy. The taste is dominated by dried fruits, nuts, toffee, and aged wood, and each sip transitions into a long, warm, slightly saline caramel finish with a refreshing citrus note at the end. This is a wine of maturity, time, and patience, where oxidation becomes an expression of elegance rather than fatigue.

About the manufacturer

Feuerheerd’s Single Harvest Old Tawny Port 2003 is part of the Port wine tradition, originating from one of Europe's oldest wine regions – the Douro Valley. This is a landscape where grapevines grow on steep, rocky slopes above the Douro River, carved into terraces that people have shaped by hand over centuries. These terraces – "patamares" and the ancient "socalcos" – are not just an agricultural system but also a cultural heritage that has allowed grapes to be grown in extreme conditions: hot summers, poor slate soil, and very low yields, which give Port wine its concentration and structure.
The tradition of Port wine production is one of the most unique in Europe, as fermentation is deliberately halted early by adding a neutral grape spirit (aguardente) to the wine, thus preserving the natural sweetness of the grapes. This method, which emerged during the 17th-18th century trade with England, allowed the wine to remain stable during long sea voyages. The wine then travels to Vila Nova de Gaia, where it is aged in oak barrels – here, in a cooler warehouse city influenced by the Atlantic climate, it slowly oxidizes and develops its characteristic nutty, caramel, and dried fruit profile. The name Feuerheerd's is historically associated with one of the old Port houses that contributed to the development and export of this wine style to Europe. Today, this name continues the tradition of classic Port – principles of long aging, oxidative development, and meticulous blending that define the "Single Harvest Old Tawny" style: a wine from a single vintage, aged for decades until it acquires a nutty, silky, and complex character.
