  • Red dry wine, aged in oak barrels

The aroma is dominated by dried roses, cherries, forest floor, licorice, and subtle spice notes. As the wine opens up, red berry, mint, and light balsamic notes emerge. The taste is silky, yet energetic and structured – young, firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral finish promise excellent aging potential. This is an elegant yet firm-character Barolo, capable of successfully aging for 25–30 years.

The 2019 vintage in the Barolo region is considered one of the best of the last decade. A cooler start to the growing season, a warm but not extreme summer, and a long autumn created ideal conditions for the slow ripening of Nebbiolo. As a result, the wines are characterized by excellent tannin maturity, expressive acidity, and aromatic precision. This vintage was particularly successful for the Serralunga d'Alba commune, producing concentrated, long-lived, and elegant Barolos whose potential will unfold for many decades to come.

About the manufacturer

Fontanafredda is one of the most important historic Barolo wineries, whose story began in 1858 when King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy acquired the estate in Serralunga d'Alba. Today, it is one of the largest organically farming wineries in the Barolo region, managing over 120 hectares of certified organic vineyards. The winery is renowned for its respect for traditional Piedmontese winemaking – long aging in large oak barrels, meticulous work in the vineyards, and the aim for each wine to accurately reflect its origin. Since 2018, the winery's technical team has been led by chief winemaker Giorgio Lavagna, who continues Fontanafredda's philosophy of combining over 160 years of cultivated traditions with a modern, sustainable approach to winemaking. Today, Fontanafredda is considered one of the most prominent ambassadors of Serralunga d'Alba in the world.
