Château Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, who returned from Bordeaux intent on combining French winemaking expertise with Lebanon's ancient wine culture. Later, his son Serge Hochar became the winery's chief winemaker and was one of the key figures in popularizing Lebanese wine worldwide. Today, the winery is managed by members of the Hochar family, with long-time winemaker and viticulture specialist Tarek Sakr overseeing wine production. The vineyards are located in the Bekaa Valley, at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters, where the hot and sunny climate is combined with cool nights and mountain winds. For a long time, Château Musar vineyards were cultivated very naturally – without intense chemical use – and today the winery maintains a low-intervention, biodiversity-friendly approach. The winery's history is also closely linked to the Lebanese Civil War – some harvests were lost, but production continued even under very difficult conditions.
