The aroma is dominated by black cherry, blackberry, cassis, plum jam and dried fruits, along with layers of tobacco, leather, balsamic notes, coffee and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is very rich, powerful and concentrated, with velvety tannins and a very high alcohol level, which nevertheless remains balanced. The taste reveals dark fruits, dark chocolate, espresso, liquorice and a long spicy finish. This is one of the most concentrated and prestigious Primitivo styles in Italy.
About the manufacturer
Gianfranco Fino and his wife Simona started their project in 2004, without an inherited family winery or long-standing family traditions. Their goal was simple yet ambitious - to show that Primitivo could be not only an easy-drinking southern wine but also a world-class, long-lived, and complex red. They sought out the oldest vineyards in the Manduria region, worked with extremely low yields, and focused on maximizing quality potential.
"Es" is their most famous wine and a kind of calling card. The name comes from Sigmund Freud's concept of the Id ("Es") – a symbol of instinct, passion, and unbridled desire. This is precisely how Gianfranco Fino describes this wine: uncompromising, intense, emotional, and born of pure passion. In a very short time, "Es" has become one of Southern Italy's cult wines, regularly receiving the highest ratings from Italian critics and often cited as one of the best Primitivos ever made.
