2021 was an exceptionally good year in the Mosel region – cool westerly winds and sunny days allowed the Riesling grapes to ripen evenly, maintaining their bright, clean acidity and intense aromatic profile. Wehlener Sonnenuhr is one of the most prestigious plots in the Mosel, with sandy, calcareous soil and excellent sun exposure, which gives this wine a profile of exceptional aromatic depth and precise structure.

The aroma is dominated by concentrated notes of lemon and yellow apple, peaches and apricots, along with hints of honey, herbs, stony minerality, and a gentle petrol undertone, characteristic of well-aged, high-quality Auslese wines. On the palate, the wine is sweet but with a vibrant, crisp acidity that gives it balance and energy; the intensity of fruit harmonizes with the sweetness, and the structure is rich and evolving, with a long-lasting, complex finish.

About the manufacturer

The J. J. Prüm winery is located in the Mosel region, in the village of Wehlen, and its history dates back to the early 19th century when the Prüm family began to shape one of the most influential Riesling traditions in the world. Its iconic status arose from its location – the steep Mosel slopes with blue slate soil, which absorbs the day's heat and releases it at night, allowing the Riesling to ripen slowly and evenly. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard – one of the most famous in Germany – is extremely steep and difficult to work by hand, but it is precisely here that wines with an extraordinary balance of acidity and sweetness, mineral tension, and longevity are born. J. J. Prüm has become a benchmark for Mosel Auslese and other levels of wines – it is a classic, pure, long-lived style that makes this winery one of the most prestigious Riesling producers in the world.
Today, the winery is managed by Katharina Prüm, who continues the family tradition with exceptional discipline and without compromise. She adheres to a classic approach – long, slow fermentation, natural balance of sugar and acidity, minimal intervention in the cellar, and maximum attention to work on the slopes. Wine critic Jancis Robinson has noted that Katharina Prüm's leadership is characterized by a "calm, firm hand," and the wines remain exceptionally pure, elegant, and long-lived. This is not a modernized or stylistically altered house style – it is a conscious preservation of historical aesthetics, where the focus is not on spectacular effects, but on precise terroir expression and the ability to age for decades.
