The wine's aroma boasts a rich dark fruit profile – ripe plums, blackcurrants, and blackberries intertwine with complex notes such as sweet spices, vanilla, smoke, and a subtle hint of cocoa from the oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a well-integrated structure featuring dense yet elegantly polished tannins and balanced acidity that gives the wine vibrancy. The taste is dominated by an intense blend of dark berries and spices, with a subtle earthy, fynbos (local meadow herb) nuance and a delicate mineral finish. The finish is long, rich, and complex, with a clear Pinotage characteristic – fruitiness with depth and a refined oak character.

About the manufacturer

Kanonkop is one of South Africa's most iconic wineries, located in the Stellenbosch region, where vineyards have been cultivated since the 17th century. The name "Kanonkop" means "cannon hill" – historically, a cannon was fired from this hill to announce the arrival of ships in Cape Town harbour. The winery gained prominence in the second half of the 20th century when it began to purposefully focus on quality and the potential of local grape varieties, especially Pinotage – South Africa's national grape. Kanonkop is considered one of the estates that helped this variety achieve international recognition and a serious reputation.
The long-standing and legendary face of the winery was Beyers Truter – a man often referred to as the "King of Pinotage." He shaped Kanonkop's style for over three decades and helped establish Pinotage as a serious, structured, and long-lived wine. In 1991, he became the first South African to win the International Winemaker of the Year award in London. His work was continued by Abrie Beeslaar, the current head winemaker, who has maintained Kanonkop's classic, structured style while also bringing even more precision and elegance. Today, Kanonkop is considered a benchmark Stellenbosch winery, whose wines are characterized by concentration, clear structure, and great aging potential.
