Kavalan Distillery is one of Taiwan's most famous whisky distilleries, founded in 2005 in the Yilan region of northeastern Taiwan. Despite its relatively short history, Kavalan quickly became one of Asia's most internationally recognized distilleries. Taiwan's subtropical climate has a very strong effect on maturation: the warmth and high humidity mature the whisky much more intensely than the cooler regions of Scotland, so even a relatively young whisky can be very rich and complex. Kavalan pays great attention to different casks, especially Sherry casks, and the "Solist" series allows the character of a specific cask to be revealed, as the whisky is bottled single cask and cask strength.
