The aroma is dominated by black cherries, plums, blackberries, and dried fruits, along with notes of tobacco, cocoa, leather, and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine is rich, warm, and full-bodied, with ripe tannins and a smooth texture. The taste reveals dark fruits, dark chocolate, sweet spices, and a light balsamic note. The finish is long, velvety, and very southern Italian in style.

About the manufacturer
Leone de Castris is one of Apulia's most historically significant wineries, founded in 1665 when Oronzo Arcangelo Maria Francesco dei Conti de Lemos arrived in the Salento region. It is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Southern Italy, shaping the identity of local winemaking for over three centuries. Leone de Castris gained particular fame in the 20th century when it created the legendary "Five Roses" — the first bottled rosé wine in Italy, which became a symbol of the entire region.
Today, the winery is led by Piernicola Leone de Castris, who continues the family traditions and combines historical heritage with modern enology. Their philosophy is based on cultivating indigenous Apulian varieties — especially Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Malvasia Nera. Salice Salentino Riserva is one of their classic wines, reflecting the character of Negroamaro: sunny, rich, spicy, and yet maintaining an elegant structure and longevity.
