The 2018 vintage in Willamette Valley was warm and balanced – enough sun for full ripeness of the grapes, yet cool nights preserved a refreshing acidity. The aroma is dominated by ripe red berries – cherries, raspberries, and a hint of cranberries, along with subtle notes of herbs, spices, and earthiness. On the palate, the wine is dry, medium-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a clear acid structure. Subtle nuances of spice, smoke, and light oak combine with the fruit intensity, and the finish is long, harmonious, and refined.

About the manufacturer

Lingua Franca was founded in 2012 in the Eola-Amity Hills sub-region of Willamette Valley, Oregon. The location was chosen deliberately – it boasts volcanic Jory and basalt soils and strong Pacific Ocean winds, which naturally reduce yields and thicken grape skins. This imparts structure, spice, and mineral tension to the Pinot Noir. From the outset, the winery focused on a Burgundy-inspired style – elegance, precision, and longevity, rather than power or overripeness. The renowned Burgundian winemaker Dominique Lafon contributed to the project in its early stages, further reinforcing its European direction.
Lingua Franca was founded by Larry Stone – one of the most influential sommeliers in the US, who earned the Master Sommelier title in 1990. For many years, he worked in top-tier restaurants and was considered an authority in the sommelier world, but he decided to transition from the restaurant floor to the vineyard. His vision was to create a wine that would reflect a sommelier's sensitivity to balance, texture, and gastronomy. Stone believed that a great wine should not be ostentatious, but rather deep, multilayered, and speak of its place. Lingua Franca became his way of proving that a sommelier can not only appreciate great wines but also create them himself.
