The 2012 vintage in the Rioja region was warm and quite dry, resulting in grapes with good concentration, ripeness, and softer acidity. The aroma reveals notes of ripe red and darker berries – cherries, plums – complemented by nuances of dried fruits, leather, tobacco, vanilla, and subtle spices. On the palate, the wine is dry, elegant, medium-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins and a harmoniously balanced structure. Flavors of ripe fruits, dried herbs, light smokiness, and sweet spice notes imparted by oak are present. The finish is long, warm, and complex.

About the manufacturer

R. López de Heredia is one of the most traditional and iconic Rioja producers, founded in 1877 in Haro. This winery stands out for adhering to ancient winemaking methods to this day – they use their own barrels, age their wines for a long time, and are in no hurry to release them to the market. Their philosophy is based on patience and respect for time – the wine is not rushed here; instead, it is allowed to develop naturally until it reaches its optimal stage of maturity. One of the most important figures at this winery is María José López de Heredia, representing the fourth generation of the family. Her philosophy is based on preserving traditions – she believes that the best wines are born not from technology, but from time, experience, and consistency. María José is actively involved in the entire process – from vineyard management to the long aging in cellars, ensuring that each wine retains an authentic, classic Rioja character.
López de Heredia pays special attention to its vineyards, especially those such as Viña Bosconia, which are considered among the most prestigious in their estates. Grapes are grown using traditional methods, with minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself naturally. The house believes that quality begins in the vineyard, so great emphasis is placed on the soil, plant balance, and yield control. This approach enables the creation of wines that are not only long-lived but also retain an authentic, timeless character.
