An elegant, concentrated, and structured Douro red wine. The aroma reveals fresh red and black berries, violet flowers, plums, licorice, and subtle fine spices. The taste is rich but maintains good freshness; tannins are soft and velvety, and the finish is long, complex, and persistent. The 2020 vintage boasts good concentration and ripe fruitiness, yet retains the acidity and structure characteristic of Douro.
About the manufacturer
The Roquette & Cazes project began in 2002 when the Roquette family of Quinta do Crasto in the Douro joined forces with the Cazes family, renowned for Château Lynch-Bages in Bordeaux. This is one of the most interesting Portuguese-French collaboration projects: the wine is made from indigenous Douro grape varieties but using certain Bordeaux winemaking techniques. Winemaking is overseen by Manuel Lobo from Quinta do Crasto and Daniel Llose, formerly of Château Lynch-Bages.
The project aims to combine the Douro terroir with French winemaking precision, resulting in a wine that is more polished and elegant than some traditionally powerful Douro reds. The grapes are mainly sourced from Quinta do Meco and older vineyards in the Douro Superior, with schist soils providing the wine with structure and a mineral character.
