The aroma is dominated by black cherries, plums, blackcurrants, and blueberries, along with violets, black pepper, cocoa, tobacco, and a subtle smokiness. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm, and rich, with mature tannins and fairly fresh acidity. The taste combines dark fruits, espresso, dark chocolate, and spices, while Syrah adds extra peppery notes and softness. The finish is long, concentrated, and gently toasted.
About the manufacturer
Tormaresca's chief enologist and creative force is Renzo Cotarella – one of Italy's most famous winemakers and the Antinori family's long-standing wine architect. It was he who helped shape Tormaresca's modern style when the Antinori family decided in 1998 to invest in the Puglia region and demonstrate that southern Italy could produce not only powerful but also elegant, terroir-expressive wines. Renzo Cotarella is renowned for his ability to combine tradition with modern enology – his style emphasizes a crucial balance between fruit concentration, acidity, and elegance. In the Tormaresca projects, he pays great attention to local southern Italian varieties such as Aglianico, Primitivo, and Negroamaro, but he interprets them with great precision and "international" refinement. Consequently, Bocca di Lupo is often considered one of the most elegant Aglianico wines from the Puglia region.
