Weingut Johannishof is a historic family winery in the Rheingau region, managed since 1999 by Johannes and Sabine Eser, representing the tenth generation of the family. The winery focuses primarily on Riesling and cultivates about 20 hectares of vineyards, 99% of which are planted with this variety. The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally responsible manner, with great attention paid to soil preservation and the character of different locations. The winery combines traditional and modern methods, including spontaneous fermentation, and the wines are aged to clearly express their origin and Riesling character. The Charta Riesling tradition in the Rheingau region emerged in 1984, created to preserve the classic, dry, fruity, and vibrant Rheingau Riesling style. Today, the Charta association is considered an important foundation from which the current Rheingau VDP Erste Lage and VDP Große Lage system later developed.
